朗尼·霍金斯（威尔·法瑞尔 饰）曾是2004年排名第一的高尔夫选手，如今在球涯后期苦苦挣扎，试图找回往日光彩。身体告诉他应该要退休了，但他的内心认为一切还没结束。前妻和身为高球界新金童的儿子兰斯都知道，他的时代已经过去。然而朗尼只差再赢下一场大赛，就能完成高尔夫“大满贯”。他始终拒绝相信大势已去，坚信自己距离高尔夫史上最伟大的东山再起，就只差这么一杆。
